Abstract In this paper we discuss methodological issues related to the estimation of the return to schooling. Several alternatives are analysed using an experimental approach as a benchmark. A novel methodology for estimating shadow amenity prices using choice based conjoint analysis is suggested. Finally we do estimate the return to schooling using the only data set from Argentina that includes estimates of subject’s intelligence.
